Spring Assembly

The kids have been studying a lot about life cycles and how things grow and change at school. They had a culminating assembly today where they were able to show off what they have learned through song and memorized lines. It was cute, and both Grace and Tyler did a very good job. Ty loves being on stage and Grace doesn't seem to mind it all that much either!

He could barely contain his excitement.

Happy Easter in Baku April 2015

HAPPY EASTER FROM BAKU!
We were very lucky this year to have so many people looking out for us from the states. If not for all of you, Easter would have been pretty disappointing. Obviously they don't celebrate Easter here so most families that do just get some local chocolate and candy and put it in a basket. We can't do that because of Ty's peanut allergy. So thanks to Kourtney and Mike Keen who sent us tons and tons of peanut free jellybeans, chocolate eggs, and chocolate bunnies, as well as cute easter stuffed animals and toys galore, the kids had a great Easter! We also had Easter care boxes from all the grandparents as well as Aunt Marsha! The kids are full of sugar and of course very happy. Here are the pics to enjoy!

Field Trip to the Greenshouse!

Since the 1st graders are currently studying about life cycles and living things, we went on a field trip to a Greenhouse here in Baku. It was a long bus ride but the kids didn't seem to mind at all. Once we arrived we had snack, followed by a talk about seeds and how they turn into plants. Then we were given a tour around the greenhouse, specifically the tomato plants. We saw how they grow them and the kids really enjoyed themselves! They were told they could take any tomato they wanted right off the vine and eat it or take it home! Grace of course ate hers right away! And Ty took his home. After we saw the tomato plants we saw an "automated train" that takes the tomatoes to be weighed and sorted. We were given cherry tomatoes to take home and off we went. We arrived back at the school a little after lunch so the kids went off to eat and I went out to have lunch with another mom which was really nice. The kids had a really good time and when we got home we washed and cut our tomatoes. Tyler tried a cherry tomato and said it was good but he didn't want any more. Grace had both cherry tomatoes and regular and liked them dipped in balsamic vinaigrette.
We all enjoyed the field trip and the tomatoes!
Enjoy the pics!

The dreaded bees. Most were in this bee house but a few were flying around much to Tyler's dismay:( But he was a very good sport about it.
Grace was all too happy to try her tomato right away and loved every single bite. yep she ate the whole thing!

I like to eat my tomatoes on bread with balsamic and Italian seasoning.
Tyler doesn't like to eat tomatoes but we convinced him to take 2 bites of a cherry one.
