We have had yet another busy week!
The kids had sports day which is similar to field day in the states but more like the Olympics here. They split the sports day up into several different days for the various grade levels so ours was only Kindergarten and 1st graders. The kids were split up into 4 team colors and each family had the same color. Grace and Ty were green. The other colors were red, yellow, and blue. Special shirts were sold and there was an opening ceremony where each color team came in and chanted a song about their team's color winning. Then they did several zumba songs all together. Then they split up into smaller groups and went to rotations such as obstacle course, basketball, soccer, etc. Next they had a snack break which was bananas and apple so Grace was in heaven but I had to run down to Ty's class to get his snack I usually send from home because he hates fruit. After a snack break, they had 4 more rotations. During all of the rotations, points were being tallied and put into a computer and on a big screen for the kids to see which color team was winning. For the last event of the day they put all the kids on the bleachers in the same room split up by color and called 4 kids at a time to run a relay race. At the end of it all they were given ice cream which was Ty's first ice-cream in the 9 months we have been here because I didn't know which ones were safe. A mom who has been here for years told me these strange cones that come in a wrapper and bought individually at the market are peanut free. Ty loved the ice-cream but he didn't love Field Day!
The day after Sports Day, we had yet another field trip to Fountain Square. The kids walked around and saw all the stores and then drew pictures of what they saw and we took a few class pics. Ty and I hung out with Grace's class because on the last field trip we had hung out with Ty's class. The kids had fun and at the end, their teachers treated them to an ice cream cone at McDonalds, 2 ice-creams cones in 2 days! So exciting!
We do have some bad news though.....our hamsters who seemed to get along great when we first got them have been fighting a lot lately and got into a really bad fight the night before the field trip. One of them actually killed the other one. I read online that hamsters will fight until death. Apparently that is what happened with these two. While we were at the field trip he got much worse and had trouble breathing. When we got home, he took his last breath in my hands and we had to bury him and say goodbye. The kids are really sad about it as am I. I am surprised at how quickly we all got so attached to them.
